One thing anglers can all agree on is that there is a lot of love for fishing in the United States. From bass fishing to northern pike and walleye, or to stream based fish like trout or blue gill, there are fishermen who love to go after them all. Strangely enough, carp fishing has lagged behind the rest despite long being perhaps the favorite game fish in all of Europe!

Still, carp fishing is beginning to gain a little bit of ground in some parts of the United States. A non-native species, there are many anglers who simply don’t like these big voracious fish, but many other anglers say that’s the perfect reason to love carp! These fish can survive almost anywhere, and they can grow into giant trophy sized fish almost anywhere. Many American anglers have looked down on carp fishing, which is a shame since in many places carp fishing is considered one of the most respected forms of sports fishing.

Fishing the right lure or bait is critical for successful fishing.  Today many different lures are readily available and have been designed to work best under various conditions.  While many of these lures of very effective in attracting fish it’s still up to the fisherman to select the best lure for the species of fish being perused, type of water or structure being fished, and one that best matches the aggressiveness of the fish. 

Jig are probably one of the most versatile and effective lures ever designed for all species of fish, even freshwater and saltwater.  This lure can be fished at any depth and used for both active and neutral fish.  A jig is simple a hook that has a particular weight of lead molded around it towards the eye of the hook.

Typically a plastic body is then slid on the hook up to lead head.  Many different sizes and shapes of plastic body designs are available in many different colors also.  Jig are great bait for bass, walleyes, perch, and panfish.

Growing up in the country, you would always hear folks talking about going hunting or fishing. As kids, we didnt know any different, and were basically intrigued by the fact that we got to go fishing or hunting with Dad or Grand Dad, right? Well, fishing on the Bayou (or Swamps) is just a bit different than doing so anywhere else. It could be very dangerous at times, but as long as you did the things you were supposed to, you would be fine. Now, being a young boy, that wasnt always the easiest thing to do.

Fishing is just as much a mental game as it is anything else. Sure, you need to have some skills to actually get several fish to the boat at any given time, but mentality goes a long way with fishing. For instance, if you set out and have the mind set that if you dont catch many fish, it was a bad day well you are just setting yourself up for disaster. Think about it. You still get to go out into the wilderness, float down the water or even hang out on the bank side, and enjoy the sounds of nature, spending time with a loved one, and learning how to concentrate all at the same time and that is if you never catch a fish. Still sounds like a good day to me, and add catching some fish to the mix and it makes it so much better. That is what I mean by mentality. The bayou is no different.
